Babies and toddlers
Ages 5 months–3 years
These lessons encourage babies and toddlers to enjoy the water. Your child will develop awareness and confidence and learn floating and kicking skills. A parent/caregiver must be in the water for the lesson.
Seals
5–9 months
Your baby will explore the aquatic environment through assisted water play and songs. This course offers an opportunity for baby and parent to bond and encourages your baby’s lifelong love of the water.
Minnows
9–16 months
Between 9-16 months your baby’s developmental milestones increase. Minnows focuses on aquatic readiness and increasing independent participation.
Penguins
14–24 months
Your child will begin to make their way through the water using kicking and paddling skills. Through fun activities, your child will become more confident going underwater and practising assisted swims.
Turtles
22–36 months
Your child will become more confident and independent in the water, practising floating, kicking, and paddling skills with your support. Your child will learn to trust and develop a relationship with an instructor. Independent submersion is encouraged.
Turbo Turtles
26–36 months
This course is designed for babies who have completed at least a term of the Turtles class, and who show they can take instruction, have full breath control and are comfortable going underwater independently.
In this course you will assist your child while they learn:
Unassisted floats on their front and back and confidently regaining their feet
Unassisted glides on their front in streamline position
Unassisted glides on their back with arms by their side
Practise the following water safety skills:
Float and signal for help with and without an aid
Duck dives and move underwater.
Turbo Turtles (no parent or caregiver)
26–36 months
An assessment is required for this course, or your child has to have progressed from Turtles. They must have shown they can take instruction without the parent, have full breath control and are comfortable going underwater independently.
In this course your child will learn:
Unassisted floats on their front and back and confidently regaining their feet
Unassisted glides on their front in streamline position
Unassisted glides on their back with arms by their side
Practise the following water safety skills:
Assisted roll from their front to their back, and back again
Float and signal for help with and without an aid
Correctly fit a life jacket do a step entry into deep water, signal for help, return to the edge for a safe exit
